TOC France Conference: Critical Chain SIAé Aero Maintenance case

Presentation of the Transall maintenance case at the annual conference of the TOC France association on November 26, 2013 by Joël Jezegou and Nathanaël Perez from the Air Force Industrial Service of Aeronautics.

Context: the company (SIAé or Industrial Service of Aeronautics of the Air Force) operates in the maintenance of military aircraft of the French army with 1400 people and 155 aircraft delivered per year. On the Clermont-Ferrand site, it was decided to manage maintenance operations using the Critical Chain approach of the Theory of Constraints.

Approach: implementation of the Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) method with the transition from a 150 days schedule to 70 days + 30 days of buffer; implementation of a dynamic monitoring system of the buffers.

Results: gains of 2 Transall aircraft available. Before 5 immobilized planes, after 3 immobilized planes due to the reduction in the duration of interventions, ie a saving of more than € 100M per year in rental avoided. 15% increase in Throughput with 13% less resources. 87% improvement in the service rate.
