Critical Chain Project Management applied to aeronautical maintenance

As part of the TOCPA conference (Theory Of Constraints Practitioners Alliance) which took place in March 2018 in Paris, Fernando Bertrand, maintenance manager at Embraer, explains how he divided by 2 the turnaround time

The Embraer Executive Jets service center is the maintenance center for the fleet of Embraer Executive aircraft for the Europe Middle East Africa - EMEA region. Located in Le Bourget, France, the Center implemented the Critical Chain to reduce the downtime of aircraft under maintenance. Starting from an average of 9 weeks, the team reduced TurnAround Time (T.A.T.) and the hours of labor by 50% without compromising quality.

Dynamic scheduling which takes into account the hazards and variability, inevitable in this type of activity, allows them to keep the commitments promised to customers. Through the development of the Fever Chart portfolio for the entire hangar, the Embraer's team has clear visibility of the progress of the works and a serene management of the activity.
